CVE-2026-47749 Vulnerability Summary

CVE-2026-47749: stable-diffusion.cpp is a pure C/C++ library for running diffusion model (Stable Diffusion, Flux, Wan, Qwen Image, Z-Image, and more) inference. Versions prior to master-584-0a7ae07 are vulnerable to heap buffer overflow in SHORT_BINUNICODE parsing for PyTorch checkpoint files. The pickle .ckpt parser in src/model.cpp contained a heap buffer overflow vulnerability in the SHORT_BINUNICODE opcode handler. The issue was caused by sign confusion on the opcode length field. A crafted .ckpt file could trigger memcpy with a very large length derived from a negative signed value, causing immediate heap corruption. Any application using affected stable-diffusion.cpp releases to load untrusted .ckpt model files could be vulnerable. A malicious checkpoint file could cause heap corruption through memcpy with an attacker-controlled length. This may lead to process crash and could potentially be leveraged for code execution depending on heap layout. The attack requires the victim or application to load a .ckpt file from an untrusted source, such as a downloaded model from a model sharing site. The issue has been resolved in version master-584-0a7ae07. If developers are unable to immediately update their applications they can work around this issue by not loading .ckpt checkpoint files from untrusted sources, and referring to trusted model sources and safer formats such as .safetensors where possible.

Assessing the Risk of CVE-2026-47749

Access Complexity Graph

The exploitability of CVE-2026-47749 depends on two key factors: attack complexity (the level of effort required to execute an exploit) and privileges required (the access level an attacker needs).

Exploitability Analysis for CVE-2026-47749

With low attack complexity and no required privileges, CVE-2026-47749 is an easy target for cybercriminals. Organizations should prioritize immediate mitigation measures to prevent unauthorized access and data breaches.

Understanding AC and PR

A lower complexity and fewer privilege requirements make exploitation easier. Security teams should evaluate these aspects to determine the urgency of mitigation strategies, such as patch management and access control policies.

Attack Complexity (AC) measures the difficulty in executing an exploit. A high AC means that specific conditions must be met, making an attack more challenging, while a low AC means the vulnerability can be exploited with minimal effort.

Privileges Required (PR) determine the level of system access necessary for an attack. Vulnerabilities requiring no privileges are more accessible to attackers, whereas high privilege requirements limit exploitation to authorized users with elevated access.

CVSS Score Breakdown Chart

Above is the CVSS Sub-score Breakdown for CVE-2026-47749, illustrating how Base, Impact, and Exploitability factors combine to form the overall severity rating. A higher sub-score typically indicates a more severe or easier-to-exploit vulnerability.

CIA Impact Analysis

Below is the Impact Analysis for CVE-2026-47749, showing how Confidentiality, Integrity, and Availability might be affected if the vulnerability is exploited. Higher values usually signal greater potential damage.

  • Confidentiality: High
Exploiting CVE-2026-47749 can result in unauthorized access to sensitive data, severely compromising data privacy.
  • Integrity: High
CVE-2026-47749 could allow unauthorized modifications to data, potentially affecting system reliability and trust.
  • Availability: High
CVE-2026-47749 can disrupt system operations, potentially causing complete denial of service (DoS).
