CVE-2026-47180 Vulnerability Summary

CVE-2026-47180: Zeroconf is a pure Python implementation of multicast DNS service discovery. Prior to 0.149.5, DNSIncoming._decode_labels_at_offset recurses once per DNS-name compression pointer, and a single mDNS packet carrying chained pointers can trigger a RecursionError that escapes DNSIncoming.__init__, causing sustained CPU burn, log flooding, and degraded mDNS-dependent features for unauthenticated hosts on the local link over UDP/5353 (224.0.0.251 / ff02::fb). This issue is fixed in version 0.149.5.

Assessing the Risk of CVE-2026-47180

Access Complexity Graph

The exploitability of CVE-2026-47180 depends on two key factors: attack complexity (the level of effort required to execute an exploit) and privileges required (the access level an attacker needs).

Exploitability Analysis for CVE-2026-47180

With low attack complexity and no required privileges, CVE-2026-47180 is an easy target for cybercriminals. Organizations should prioritize immediate mitigation measures to prevent unauthorized access and data breaches.

Understanding AC and PR

A lower complexity and fewer privilege requirements make exploitation easier. Security teams should evaluate these aspects to determine the urgency of mitigation strategies, such as patch management and access control policies.

Attack Complexity (AC) measures the difficulty in executing an exploit. A high AC means that specific conditions must be met, making an attack more challenging, while a low AC means the vulnerability can be exploited with minimal effort.

Privileges Required (PR) determine the level of system access necessary for an attack. Vulnerabilities requiring no privileges are more accessible to attackers, whereas high privilege requirements limit exploitation to authorized users with elevated access.

CVSS Score Breakdown Chart

Above is the CVSS Sub-score Breakdown for CVE-2026-47180, illustrating how Base, Impact, and Exploitability factors combine to form the overall severity rating. A higher sub-score typically indicates a more severe or easier-to-exploit vulnerability.

CIA Impact Analysis

Below is the Impact Analysis for CVE-2026-47180, showing how Confidentiality, Integrity, and Availability might be affected if the vulnerability is exploited. Higher values usually signal greater potential damage.

  • Confidentiality: None
CVE-2026-47180 has no significant impact on data confidentiality.
  • Integrity: None
CVE-2026-47180 poses no threat to data integrity.
  • Availability: High
CVE-2026-47180 can disrupt system operations, potentially causing complete denial of service (DoS).

CAPEC Common Attack Pattern Enumeration and Classification

  • Serialized Data with Nested Payloads CAPEC-230 Applications often need to transform data in and out of a data format (e.g., XML and YAML) by using a parser. It may be possible for an adversary to inject data that may have an adverse effect on the parser when it is being processed. Many data format languages allow the definition of macro-like structures that can be used to simplify the creation of complex structures. By nesting these structures, causing the data to be repeatedly substituted, an adversary can cause the parser to consume more resources while processing, causing excessive memory consumption and CPU utilization.
  • Oversized Serialized Data Payloads CAPEC-231 An adversary injects oversized serialized data payloads into a parser during data processing to produce adverse effects upon the parser such as exhausting system resources and arbitrary code execution.
