CVE-2026-43006 Vulnerability Summary

CVE-2026-43006: In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: io_uring/rsrc: reject zero-length fixed buffer import validate_fixed_range() admits buf_addr at the exact end of the registered region when len is zero, because the check uses strict greater-than (buf_end > imu->ubuf + imu->len). io_import_fixed() then computes offset == imu->len, which causes the bvec skip logic to advance past the last bio_vec entry and read bv_offset from out-of-bounds slab memory. Return early from io_import_fixed() when len is zero. A zero-length import has no data to transfer and should not walk the bvec array at all. BUG: KASAN: slab-out-of-bounds in io_import_reg_buf+0x697/0x7f0 Read of size 4 at addr ffff888002bcc254 by task poc/103 Call Trace: io_import_reg_buf+0x697/0x7f0 io_write_fixed+0xd9/0x250 __io_issue_sqe+0xad/0x710 io_issue_sqe+0x7d/0x1100 io_submit_sqes+0x86a/0x23c0 __do_sys_io_uring_enter+0xa98/0x1590 Allocated by task 103: The buggy address is located 12 bytes to the right of allocated 584-byte region [ffff888002bcc000, ffff888002bcc248)

Assessing the Risk of CVE-2026-43006

Access Complexity Graph

The exploitability of CVE-2026-43006 depends on two key factors: attack complexity (the level of effort required to execute an exploit) and privileges required (the access level an attacker needs).

Exploitability Analysis for CVE-2026-43006

CVE-2026-43006 presents an accessible attack vector with minimal effort required. Restricting access controls and implementing security updates are critical to reducing exploitation risks.

Understanding AC and PR

A lower complexity and fewer privilege requirements make exploitation easier. Security teams should evaluate these aspects to determine the urgency of mitigation strategies, such as patch management and access control policies.

Attack Complexity (AC) measures the difficulty in executing an exploit. A high AC means that specific conditions must be met, making an attack more challenging, while a low AC means the vulnerability can be exploited with minimal effort.

Privileges Required (PR) determine the level of system access necessary for an attack. Vulnerabilities requiring no privileges are more accessible to attackers, whereas high privilege requirements limit exploitation to authorized users with elevated access.

CVSS Score Breakdown Chart

Above is the CVSS Sub-score Breakdown for CVE-2026-43006, illustrating how Base, Impact, and Exploitability factors combine to form the overall severity rating. A higher sub-score typically indicates a more severe or easier-to-exploit vulnerability.

CIA Impact Analysis

Below is the Impact Analysis for CVE-2026-43006, showing how Confidentiality, Integrity, and Availability might be affected if the vulnerability is exploited. Higher values usually signal greater potential damage.

  • Confidentiality: High
Exploiting CVE-2026-43006 can result in unauthorized access to sensitive data, severely compromising data privacy.
  • Integrity: None
CVE-2026-43006 poses no threat to data integrity.
  • Availability: High
CVE-2026-43006 can disrupt system operations, potentially causing complete denial of service (DoS).
