CVE-2026-33799 Vulnerability Summary

CVE-2026-33799: An Out-of-bounds Write vulnerability in the SNMP daemon (snmpd) of Juniper Networks Junos OS and Junos OS Evolved allows an authenticated network-based attacker sending specific valid SNMPv3 queries to trigger a memory leak. Over time, continuous receipt of these queries will result in snmpd process memory exhaustion, resulting in a process crash and restart, impacting the ability to monitor the system via SNMP. Memory usage can be monitored using the following command: user@device> show system processes extensive | match snmpd This issue affects: Junos OS: * all versions before 21.2R3-S8; * from 21.4 before 21.4R3-S7; * from 22.1 before 22.1R3-S6; * from 22.2 before 22.2R3-S4; * from 22.3 before 22.3R3-S3; * from 22.4 before 22.4R3-S2; * from 23.2 before 23.2R2; * from 23.4 before 23.4R2. Junos OS Evolved: * all versions before 21.2R3-S8-EVO; * from 21.4 before 21.4R3-S7-EVO; * all versions of 22.1-EVO, * from 22.2 before 22.2R3-S4-EVO; * from 22.3 before 22.3R3-S3-EVO; * all versions of 22.4-EVO, * from 23.2 before 23.2R2-EVO; * from 23.4 before 23.4R2-EVO.

Assessing the Risk of CVE-2026-33799

Access Complexity Graph

The exploitability of CVE-2026-33799 depends on two key factors: attack complexity (the level of effort required to execute an exploit) and privileges required (the access level an attacker needs).

Exploitability Analysis for CVE-2026-33799

CVE-2026-33799 presents an accessible attack vector with minimal effort required. Restricting access controls and implementing security updates are critical to reducing exploitation risks.

Understanding AC and PR

A lower complexity and fewer privilege requirements make exploitation easier. Security teams should evaluate these aspects to determine the urgency of mitigation strategies, such as patch management and access control policies.

Attack Complexity (AC) measures the difficulty in executing an exploit. A high AC means that specific conditions must be met, making an attack more challenging, while a low AC means the vulnerability can be exploited with minimal effort.

Privileges Required (PR) determine the level of system access necessary for an attack. Vulnerabilities requiring no privileges are more accessible to attackers, whereas high privilege requirements limit exploitation to authorized users with elevated access.

CVSS Score Breakdown Chart

Above is the CVSS Sub-score Breakdown for CVE-2026-33799, illustrating how Base, Impact, and Exploitability factors combine to form the overall severity rating. A higher sub-score typically indicates a more severe or easier-to-exploit vulnerability.

CIA Impact Analysis

Below is the Impact Analysis for CVE-2026-33799, showing how Confidentiality, Integrity, and Availability might be affected if the vulnerability is exploited. Higher values usually signal greater potential damage.

  • Confidentiality: None
CVE-2026-33799 has no significant impact on data confidentiality.
  • Integrity: None
CVE-2026-33799 poses no threat to data integrity.
  • Availability: Low
