CVE-2026-107826 Vulnerability Summary

CVE-2026-107826: OWASP Coraza WAF is a golang modsecurity compatible web application firewall library. From 3.0.0 until 3.8.1, readJSON in internal/bodyprocessors/json.go can stop its bounded flattening walk after reaching SecArgumentsLimit or the byte budget and then call gjson.Valid on the complete raw body. An unauthenticated attacker can submit shallow values followed by an extremely deeply nested JSON tail that was not visited by the bounded walk, causing gjson.Valid to recurse without a depth bound and terminate the hosting process with an unrecoverable fatal stack overflow. The ProcessRequest and ProcessResponse JSON paths share the affected readJSON validation flow, and the payload can remain within recommended body-size and argument-count limits. This issue is fixed in version 3.8.1.

Assessing the Risk of CVE-2026-107826

Access Complexity Graph

The exploitability of CVE-2026-107826 depends on two key factors: attack complexity (the level of effort required to execute an exploit) and privileges required (the access level an attacker needs).

Exploitability Analysis for CVE-2026-107826

With low attack complexity and no required privileges, CVE-2026-107826 is an easy target for cybercriminals. Organizations should prioritize immediate mitigation measures to prevent unauthorized access and data breaches.

Understanding AC and PR

A lower complexity and fewer privilege requirements make exploitation easier. Security teams should evaluate these aspects to determine the urgency of mitigation strategies, such as patch management and access control policies.

Attack Complexity (AC) measures the difficulty in executing an exploit. A high AC means that specific conditions must be met, making an attack more challenging, while a low AC means the vulnerability can be exploited with minimal effort.

Privileges Required (PR) determine the level of system access necessary for an attack. Vulnerabilities requiring no privileges are more accessible to attackers, whereas high privilege requirements limit exploitation to authorized users with elevated access.

CVSS Score Breakdown Chart

Above is the CVSS Sub-score Breakdown for CVE-2026-107826, illustrating how Base, Impact, and Exploitability factors combine to form the overall severity rating. A higher sub-score typically indicates a more severe or easier-to-exploit vulnerability.

CIA Impact Analysis

Below is the Impact Analysis for CVE-2026-107826, showing how Confidentiality, Integrity, and Availability might be affected if the vulnerability is exploited. Higher values usually signal greater potential damage.

  • Confidentiality: None
CVE-2026-107826 has no significant impact on data confidentiality.
  • Integrity: None
CVE-2026-107826 poses no threat to data integrity.
  • Availability: High
CVE-2026-107826 can disrupt system operations, potentially causing complete denial of service (DoS).

CAPEC Common Attack Pattern Enumeration and Classification

  • Serialized Data with Nested Payloads CAPEC-230 Applications often need to transform data in and out of a data format (e.g., XML and YAML) by using a parser. It may be possible for an adversary to inject data that may have an adverse effect on the parser when it is being processed. Many data format languages allow the definition of macro-like structures that can be used to simplify the creation of complex structures. By nesting these structures, causing the data to be repeatedly substituted, an adversary can cause the parser to consume more resources while processing, causing excessive memory consumption and CPU utilization.
  • Oversized Serialized Data Payloads CAPEC-231 An adversary injects oversized serialized data payloads into a parser during data processing to produce adverse effects upon the parser such as exhausting system resources and arbitrary code execution.
